The meme on the right refutes the one on the left in two ways:
- Cancer tends to be an old age disease. Cells have multiple mechanisms that prevent endless growth, and to get cancer you need mutations that disable all of them. Those mutations take time to accumulate.
- Being diagnosed with cancer is actually good news. It means they doctors know what is wrong with you, and might be able to cure you. In 1900, at each age you probably had a higher chance of dying of undiagnosed cancer than you do now.
