False Dichotomy: How to Protect Students

This meme invites us to compare two possibilities:

  1. Adult teachers shooting back at armed intruders
  2. Middle schoolers (12-16 year old) throwing canned goods at armed intruders.

It is quite obvious that #1 is better, but it is a false dichotomy. But both together would be even better. Unless GOA is suggesting to arm and train the middle schoolers, should they need to defend themselves it is best they use something they have. That does not mean teachers shouldn’t be armed, but that it is best to plan for defense in depth rather than rely on a single solution.

Edit: Kevin Crowley pointed out that the district in question does not allow teachers to be armed, and therefore canned goods are an inferior alternative that is at least available.
